The Fundamental Concept: Towers vs. Sites
Before diving into any course, understand this critical distinction that underpins everything in wireless spectrum intelligence.
Towers
Physical Infrastructure
FCC-registered antenna structures — the physical steel and real estate where antennas can be mounted. Includes height, exact location, structure type, and registered owner.
Sites
Licensed Transmitters
FCC-licensed wireless operations — who is actually transmitting, on what frequencies, at what power levels. One tower hosts many sites. A site may not be on a tower at all.
Key Insight: One tower can host many licensed transmitters (colocation). A wireless operation may be on a rooftop, a vehicle, or a building — not a tower at all. Understanding this unlocks the full power of spectrum intelligence.
